I can't wait to try something like this out. Jay loves different types of butters (apple, etc...) maybe he would like peach. I think I may just tackle this yet. You're definitley tempting me.Kariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07192687256789603468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932644491099258366.post-1871469916471020402010-08-12T16:40:08.443-05:002010-08-12T16:40:08.443-05:00Would love to have your recipes for the peach butt...Would love to have your recipes for the peach butter, spiced peach butter, as I LOVE PEACHES. :o)carolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00098807914830127730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932644491099258366.post-56931662133882264012010-08-11T21:01:54.130-05:002010-08-11T21:01:54.130-05:00Kar, YEP. But we don't have a peach tree (YET!). We do have two apple trees--I can not wait until they start producing.

Beyond that, waiting until the product you are canning (whatever it is--beans, tomatoes, peaches, etc.) is at the peak of it's season is the time to buy. The fruits/veggies are plentiful then, and you can buy them locally grown (and sometimes organic) at the cheapest price. I got these peaches for $.79 per pound, which is VERY inexpensive. I have canned all day and made a ton of stuff, and I still have peaches left! :)

Also, I am SO with Leanne on this. I can not only because it is frugal, but because I LOVE doing it. It is a lot of work, but I really think it is a lost art. I had so much fun today making peach butter, spiced peach butter, food for Lola, pie filling, and canning all the rest of the peaches. It gives a sense of satisfaction like no other!

PLUS--it is by far healthier. Everything I grow is done naturally, with no pesticides or anything artificial. I know it is the best choice for my family, so I do it as much as I am able!

I'll post a picture soon of what I have been able to do this season--you'll love it next year, Kar!Devinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00536576059551978920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932644491099258366.post-58718963218999245322010-08-11T17:13:06.812-05:002010-08-11T17:13:06.812-05:00These are tomatoes not peaches right? You're building a snowman???

Hahahahahahahah.......

I adore, I mean ADORE canning! It IS so much more healthy for you and it is so much more rewarding and yes, I do believe it is cheaper! Due to rotten weather and not much summer here this year, our garden just did not produce. So I think we're going to eastern WA to buy fruits and veggies to can.

Don't forget to show us the finished product!Leannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07790757525000409229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932644491099258366.post-71590837974558190642010-08-11T10:22:12.875-05:002010-08-11T10:22:12.875-05:00Do you seriously buy that many peaches just to can...Do you seriously buy that many peaches just to can? That's crazy. Is it more expensive than just buying them canned? I buy mine from Costco (not the kind that has the high fructose and all that). I'm just curious. Next year with our garden, I will probably be asking you a bunch of questions about canning.Kariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07192687256789603468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932644491099258366.post-57114284527761332962010-08-10T21:55:46.690-05:002010-08-10T21:55:46.690-05:00trying to make yourself insane that's what!
