So adult....so childish

Tonight, after I was done reading to the boys, Colin said to me:

"Mom? Today Naomi said that she wanted to marry me."

"Oh, really?" I said. "Well, you don't have to worry about that for a very long, long time, honey. You won't get married for many more years."

"But she said she wanted me to marry her."

Again, I explained that marriage is something that is waaaaaaaay in the future for him.

He was quiet for a moment, and, as if he needed to give me just a little bit more clarification--as if I just didn't quite get the point he was trying to make--he explained:

"You know, Mom....Naomi. Naomi? You know....the one who stuck the piece of corn in her ear today in class?"

(And maybe you had to be there, or you just totally have to know Colin to get this--but in no way was he worried about the idea of marriage in this instance. The expression on his face and the tone of his voice said it all--and I finally got what he was trying to say. If he were a little less polite, he would have just come out and said,

"Mom, are you serious? I would never marry a girl that put a piece of corn in her ear.")

So Funny! I can totally picture him saying that too, with a look of utter disbelief on his face. Like are you nuts? Gotta love Colin!!
