Random Things

Kara tagged me quite some time ago to write six random things about myself! This is about as random as you can get, I think.....

1. I abhor Little Debbie snack cakes. I have no idea why. I just do. I won't touch 'em with a 10-foot pole. Shane loves them, by the way. That Debbie has caused some not so little bouts of marital discord in the past, because I have always refused to buy them for him. The fact that you can get 10 desserts for $.99 should thrill me....but all I can think when I see them at the grocery store is, "Ugh. What on earth must be in those that you can get so many for so cheap?"

2. I truly believe that The Office is the best show ever on Television--but, it took me a few episodes. I hated it the first several times I watched it. It has even surprisingly taken over (by just a hair, but still) one of my all time favorites--Seinfeld. "It's the best Jerry. The best."

3. I say the word stir like "steer". I don't know why, but I always have. And it drives Shane crazy. However, I do not say melk (milk) or pellow (pillow) or warsh (wash), three mispronounciations that are common here in our area. Those drive him even more crazy.

4. If I could sing like anyone in the whole world, I would pick Martina McBride's voice. I just love it. So clear, and amazingly powerful with very little effort exhibited. Close behind would be: the chick from Toby Mac; Michael Buble (but a girl's version); or Celine Dion. Beat on your chest and knock her all you want. Many people enjoy mocking her, but, as Jen pointed out, I think that just may be what we sound like when we sing in Heaven. *grin*

5. I love, love, love to cook. I also love watching Food Network when I'm near cable TV, and reading cookbooks--not necessarily for searching out recipes, but just to see all the food out there that can be made! I guess I would say that that would boil down to reading them for fun and not just for cooking information. One of my new favorite things is bringing my kids into the kitchen with me, and allowing them to help with the process. It takes twice as long and I am generally pulling my hair out by the end of the recipe, but so far, everything we have done together has been mostly fun and quite successful--and the boys seem to enjoy themselves to no end in the process. On the list (picked by Colin himself, from two children's cookbooks that we checked out of the library) for this week: Orange Cranberry Scones, Overnight French Toast, and homemade Pizza (with homemade dough and sauce--the works!)

6. I turn 30 this month--and I have two very conflicting feelings about it. Either one hits me at different points as I go throughout the day:

  • 1. I could really care less; after all, age is only a number, and I don't feel any different than I did when I was in high school..........

  • 2. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!! 30?! Are you serious?!? How can this be?!?

And, as a bonus:

7. My mom called me Peedie when I was little. I always loved that nickname, and sometimes I call my children that--each of them, at different times, just randomly. And, every night when I went to bed, she would say: "Love you mostest!" and I would say, "Love you bestest!" and then she would say, "Love you bestest!" and I would say, "Love you mostest!" and then she would say, "Love you." and I would say "Love you."

And, now, I do that with my boys.

I, too, am very obsessed with cooking/baking! I am a Recipezaar.com addict. If you have not been there, GO! It is so fun and very time consuming!

I also involve my kids and do so at a very early age. I rarely get to cook by myself. If I NEED to, then I wait until they all go to bed! =) My 10 year old son LOVES to cook to this day. Our boys will make some CRAZY AWESOME husbands some day! Our future daughter-in-laws will thank us!

And by the way, we are NOT in High School anymore????? I was just getting ready to report to Mr. Cornelius' algebra class!!! What the?????

I love to cook with my girls and they love it. I have found it much harder to cook with two kids then one. One of them is always pouring something in while I am trying to keep my eye on the other one. When we bake I always hope that the amount of flour they spill will equal out with the amount of butter and sugar that they eat.;)

As for The Office, it is totally my husband's favorite show and it also took me several episodes to get into but now it cracks me up. I think once you get to know the characters it makes it even funnier.

Happy 30th. I just turned 36 in Dec. so you are a baby! I remember dreading thirty so much the whole year that I was 29 that by the time I got to thirty I was over it. You look great you don't look thirty and you don't act it I would guess form your blog so have funa nd enjoy!

That WAS pretty random, but interesting!

It's funny, I really don't like to cook that much, but I love looking at cookbooks and recipes online. Maybe I'm subconsciously trying to get myself to love cooking?

I don't mind Little Debbies, although I really don't ever buy them. They aren't as good as they were when I was a kid (like when the strawberry shortcake rolls had the huge chunks of sugar on them...they don't do that anymore).

I LOVE The Office too! We haven't watched it in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time, so I really have no idea what's going on now. But I love it anyway. We have some episodes we TiVo'ed back in the days of TV, so we watch those sometimes. Maybe one day I'll just break down and buy the seasons on DVD.

30? That's NOTHING girl! You look great, and no one would ever guess you're 30! (Plus, I've been 30 for *GASP* 4 years now, and I don't feel old at all!) 30 is the new 20!

Devin,
Got your comment, thanks, noticed my map thing said you came from Champaign, Illinois, kind of random because I went to college at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, so I called it home for four years, that is where my husband and I met. Turning 30 isn't too bad, it is just another number in the grand scheme of life, it is the things you've done in that time that matter, and you have three beautiful children to attest for your years.
God Bless,
Bridget

It is interesting that you believe lower cost means poor quality. I can assure you our quality is the best we buy the same ingredients that you are buying at the grocery store from the same suppliers. The difference is automation. My grandfather started this tradition in the 50's and we have never slowed down. Our people really make the difference, constantly "finding a better way". Yes, I read the blogs about our products, but yours is the first I've choosen to comment on. Thanks for the opportunity.

Devin....I swear we are the same person.

Martina McBride is my ALL-TIME favorite singer, I seriously think I could go an entire day and just speak in The Office quotes, AND I look up Culinary Arts schools everyday at work :) Except for the whole peedle thing :) LoL BUT my dad DID call me Bubba Mae until.....well he still calls me that. LoL
